It wasn’t until the 1970’s when John Sage’s idea of starting a DJ and event production business came to life.   After kicking around names such as Sage on Stage or Sage on Sound, John finally settled for its acronym and the start of SOS Entertainment had officially begun.

It wasn’t until the 1970’s when John Sage’s idea of starting a DJ and event production business came to life.   After kicking around names such as Sage on Stage or Sage on Sound, John finally settled for its acronym and the start of SOS Entertainment had officially begun.  
John shared his love for event production by teaching his four sons, helping them learn the ropes of the business at a young age.  John’s second oldest son, Derek, continued in his father’s footsteps, taking the reins as primary owner and general manager of SOS.  “I remember going to events with my dad when I was 10 years old,” states Derek, “he was an amazing MC (Master of Ceremonies) and became a role model and great example to me. Being able to help others celebrate life at events such as weddings, birthday parties, and school dances seemed like a blast and I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to DJ on my own.”
And Derek didn’t have to wait too long.  He purchased his own DJ system and booked his first paying gig at Agua Dulce Elementary school when he was in the sixth grade.  “I think I made $20 to play music for some activities on the last day of school.  Since then, I’ve been hooked.”
If you live in the Santa Clarita Valley, you may have even seen SOS Entertainment in action, as they have entertained Santa Claritans at the SCV Senior Center Wine Auction, the exciting Dancing With Our Stars event, Celebrity Waiter and Westfield’s Rockin’ Summer Nights, to name a few.  Providing over 500 events per year, SOS travel as far as San Diego and San Luis Obispo to entertain audiences.  “Though we find it easier to provide a more personal touch with events in the immediate Los Angeles County, we do our best to provide services to whoever needs it,” states Derek.
With a young and energetic team of approximately 30 staff members, Derek utilizes their energy and creativity as much as possible.  “Our team is young and fun, but still experienced and professional. We recruit and train all of our own DJs based primarily on personality and work ethic. We are constantly purchasing new equipment and building custom packages for our clients.  Innovation to us is huge.”
SOS also carefully plans and controls how many events their company will book per weekend, month and year.  “Our business model is something we’ve spent years polishing and are very proud of,” states Derek, “we could easily handle more events by the common practice of sub-contracting as other companies do, but we would never want to jeopardize the quality control at our events.  Even the smallest event is treated with the utmost care.”
