Blue Plate Radio described his music as “jazz chops with pop.”  Concord Records’ Rick Nuhn noted his debut CD as  “cool and crisp…unexpected pleasure”.  And after listening to his music, you can’t help but smile and agree with what the professionals have to say about the talented contemporary artist, Kyle Wolverton.
Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Kyle began playing music at an early age.  While he his roots may be firmly planted in gospel, musicians like Grover Washington Jr. and Maceo Parker were highly influential.  His love of fusion jazz coupled with R & B influences joined forces to create a very distinctive sound.
Kyle studied music at Pacific Union College and later joined forces with a premier blues band, Marshall Law.  He eventually made his way to Los Angeles in 2001 where he has performed with many recording artists.
Kyle’s debut album was released in 2009 and emerged as one of the best contemporary jazz artists.  His songs are diverse and range from soul to funky groove.  “As a musician living in Los Angeles, I feel extremely blessed to have met and performed with many of the artists I grew up listening to and attempting to emulate,” states Kyle.  Last year, Kyle released his second album, Don’t Stop the Music.  “Strong melodies with New Orleans second line style brass, combined with a hard driving funk flare are sure to keep audiences dancing in the days ahead.”  The first single, Never Better, was released last July and was the number one most added song in the country in the contemporary jazz arena.
On Sunday, October 26, the talented musician will make his way to the SCV and join the Santa Clarita community with a performance at the Daniel Pearl World Music Days concert.  The concert will showcase some of SCV’s most talented youth along with the the brilliant musician.
