It wasn’t until one summer when she started playing the piano at Grace Community Church that she realized her love for music and song had begun. Without a lesson to her name, she began playing and singing, eventually leading to performances at the local coffee house. “A lot of the people I would perform for kept insisting I record my music. So needless to say, I flew to New York, and came home with a record deal,” states Angel. The talented singer and songwriter signed with Aware Records/Columbia. Angel released her debut album, Love Travels on March 31 of last year on iTunes, and little did she know just how far her travels would take her. By September of 2009, her album hit stores, iTunes named her album Best Pop Album of 2009, and her single Like You Do made its way up the Adult Top 40 radio playlist and has become a fixture in the Top 5 of VHI’s Top 20 Video Countdown. Her album was known as one of the top debuts of the year, and People magazine hailed Like You Do as a “slice of folk-pop heaven.” Angel made her way to television and performed the song live on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She was also featured as one of VH1’s “You Oughta Know” Artist on the Rise this last year. The twenty-two year old singer has, in a short time, experienced a lot of success. Angel has traveled the country with artists such as Adele, Gavin Degraw, Ingrid Michaelson and Matt Kearney, Five for Fighting, Brett Dennen, Brandi Carlile, and Kate Voegele. Angel’s North American Amphitheater Tour just ended last month. She toured with the popular band the Barenaked Ladies and American Idol winner Kris Allen. “Being on tour, everything can become routine,” states Angel, “but I make sure I’m always writing, because I’m passionate about what I do.” Her songs are sweet and graceful. Couple that with Angel’s expressive lyrics and you have enchanting songs like Chai Tea Latte or Make Me Believe. Her music is based on life experiences, through her eyes. Her musical inspiration, singer/songwriter John Mayer, is also her label mate on Aware Records/Columbia. Much like Mayer, Angel’s music tugs at your heartstrings and touches your soul. And despite her sudden success, Angel hasn’t lost sight of her roots. The youngest of five girls, Angel’s biggest inspiration is her mother, who raised the family on her own. “My mother is my mentor, my companion,” states Angel. “She is, by far, my biggest supporter and I’m so grateful.” Angel’s journey has certainly begun. “If you have a passion, pursue it,” states Angel. “If you have a passion for music, let it grow. Go after it. It will be difficult, but it is extremely rewarding.” For more information or tour dates, visit www.angeltayloronline.com.
