BILL MIRANDA – Love For Country and Community
Bill Miranda has a long history of public service that extends much farther back than his time as the mayor of our community. Before he was known as Mayor Bill Miranda, he followed his own journey of community engagement and leadership – he’s spent time in the Air Force, corporate sales and management, entrepreneurship and, of course, civic service here in Santa Clarita, first as a member with the Small Business Development Center and later on as a founder of the Latino Chamber of Commerce. Needless to say, he has a ton of experience under his belt, and as he can tell you himself, he has big plans in store both for himself and for our community.
Bill Miranda credits his father as one of his main points of inspiration for pursuing public service. His father served the United States as a member of the military, and it was during Miranda’s upbringing that he learned the importance of selflessness and service. Then, when he first stepped into the world of business and entrepreneurship, he further developed this interest.
“I learned that giving back to the community was how companies and organizations expressed their gratitude,” he says.
After a stroke took him out of work for two years, Bill Miranda came to the realization that he was meant to not only honor his father’s dedication and patronage, but forge his own path towards civic service as well.
“I pledged to myself that I would spend the rest of my life helping others,” he says.
Throughout his time as mayor, he amassed an impressive list of accomplishments that have served to improve the lives of SCV residents all across the valley.
It was during his time as mayor that the city helped to open the Laemmle Theater, The Cube, the new Sheriff Station and the new Canyon Country Community Center. Bill, if you ask him, has plenty of new ideas in store for the future of Santa Clarita.
One of the projects he’s most excited for is his continued journey as an author. As of today, Former Mayor Miranda is the author of two published books, Profiles in Latino Courage and A New Kind of Mayor. Both books offer insight into the life of a man who has dedicated himself to his role in civic service and his love for country and community, and he has plans to continue sharing his story and life experiences through the written word.
“I’ve always been an avid reader, so books have been an important part of my life,” he shares. “I have often been asked, ‘when are you going to write a book about your amazing life?’, and early this year, I decided it was time.”
It goes without saying that Mayor Miranda has a lot on his plate when it comes to both his personal and professional endeavors. One thing remains true, however – his priority is finding a way to connect his love for his community with his interests in business, storytelling, and personal growth.
“I brought my family here almost 40 years ago – Santa Clarita has been extremely good to us, and we hope we have been very good for Santa Clarita too,” he says. “My life goals are to continue to serve my country and my community in any way that I can.”
You can find both of his books on Amazon, and more information about them can be found on his website, anewkindofmayor.com. He’s also reachable via email at info@billmiranda.com, and you can learn more about his role in SCV at https://www.santa-clarita.com/city-hall/city-council/mayor-bill-miranda.
