Championing for Change – Real Way Foundation
At the Real Way Foundation, their motivation is simple: they’re working hard to set their community up for success, and that means acting as the helping hand that leads those in need to the resources and guidance that they’ve lacked for so long.
Executive Director, Syian Wignal describes the foundation as an opportunity to support and train those who lack the encouragement and leadership that is oftentimes hard to come by these days. The foundation specializes in various training and leadership methods that allow members to develop into their best selves, both professionally and personally.
“In our community, there are so many resources for housing and food, which is of course important,” he says. “But who’s helping these people get jobs and build their leadership skills so they can find jobs, grow in those jobs, and eventually become independent? Who’s helping them re-enter the workforce and promoting their success?”
Syian holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership, and is currently finishing up his second one in Executive Coaching. His goal is to share his talents, education and abilities with those who need help the most.
The Real Way Foundation focuses on helping community members gain the skills they need to obtain and keep a job, which ultimately leads to independence and self development. This is done through group training, researching jobs, workshops for preparing resumes and interview prep, and much more.
The foundation was started in June of 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, they’ve successfully helped 25 unhoused individuals take the steps necessary to take life by the reins, and start life anew with the skills and opportunities provided to them by the foundation.
The Real Way Foundation has partnered with our local homeless shelter, Bridge to Home, to provide career coaching and guidance sessions every single week. They also work with ACTION on a weekly basis to assist youths struggling with drug addiction to turn their life around.
“I will not give up on helping those who need it – they have goals and dreams,” Syian says. “I want to walk alongside them while they work through their current challenges so they can take steps towards achieving them.”
Since its inception, Syian has watched the foundation grow and achieve remarkable things. Going forward, he has hopes of expanding the organization’s staff, logistical development, and much more to help bolster the foundation forward and into even more successes in years to come.
“We believe that people are valuable no matter what their current situation is,” he says. “We want to provide services, support and resources that aren’t available to the populations we work with.”
Syian is grateful for his team and the community members he serves. It’s a group effort – he’s appreciative of every person’s support and dedication to the foundation’s cause.
