Championing Student Wellness: Meet Sarah Gilberts A Voice for Mental Health in Our Schools
We recently had the pleasure of meeting Sarah Gilberts at the WiSH Education Foundation’s Wine Under the Roof event, where she captivated the audience as a guest speaker. Her warmth, professionalism, and passion for student well-being shone through as she shared insights from her years of experience supporting youth and families. Her message was simple but powerful, our students need support not only in their academics, but in their emotional and mental well-being as well. With compassion, insight, and a deep understanding of the challenges young people face today, Sarah inspired everyone present to look at education through a more human lens, one that values wellness as much as success.
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Sarah has devoted her career to helping students thrive on every level. She is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, socio-emotional growth, equity, and accessibility for all students. Born and raised in Santa Clarita, she now calls the valley home with her husband and their three childre. On weekends, you can often find her at local sports fields, cheering from the sidelines, celebrating victories, and embracing the joy of community.
Sarah earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California, a milestone that launched a career filled with purpose. Her professional journey spans non-profit organizations, psychiatric social work in several Los Angeles County school districts and abroad, and private practice right here in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Specializing in child and adolescent mental health, Sarah supports students experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional regulation challenges, trauma, and family-related stressors. Her work focuses on crisis intervention, early identification of mental health concerns, and prevention programs that foster resiliency and connection.
Today, Sarah serves as the District Wellness Coordinator for the William S. Hart Union High School District, which serves over 21,000 students across 17 junior high and high schools. The Hart District is widely recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, and increasingly, for its forward-thinking focus on student wellness. Under Sarah’s leadership, the district continues to expand its wellness centers, safe spaces on every campus where students can access mental health support and learn coping strategies that will serve them for life.
For Sarah, this mission is more than a profession, it’s a passion rooted in community, compassion, and care. “When students feel seen, heard, and supported,” she says, “they begin to believe in themselves—and that’s where true learning begins. My hope is that every student who walks through our doors knows they are never alone.”
