Explore Art Across Santa Clarita!

by | Jun 27, 2022 | Santa Clarita Arts Commission

With the heat in full swing this summer, stay cool and step inside one of the many local art galleries across the Santa Clarita Valley! Whether you like photography, textiles, painting or abstracts, the City is thrilled to collaborate with local artists to feature their work in our facilities. Each of these galleries are free to the public, and we can’t wait for our residents to enjoy these new exhibits!
Get ready for your mind to be challenged when you walk through Josué Silva’s “Earthereal Views” exhibit at the Canyon Country Community Center Gallery. Silva is a photographer who previously worked for an aeronautics company, where he learned to take aerial photos with contrasting colors and shapes, bending the viewer’s mind and perspectives. Silva’s photos consist of simplistic patterns, shapes and textures that reflect the natural beauty of the world and introduce viewers to a completely different perspective of everyday locations. Silva’s exhibit will be on display through August 31.
Step into a world of textiles as the walls of the First Floor Gallery at the Santa Clarita City Hall are transformed for the new “Fiber Art” exhibit. Each of the artworks are made from fibers and textiles, including intricately woven portraits, abstract inspired nature hangings, as well as threaded images. You won’t want to miss this exhibit which will be on display from July 8 through September 16.
Become one with nature while walking through the Youth Artist Solo Show featuring 14-year-old local artist Matthew Santos at the Santa Clarita Public Library Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Branch. This art exhibit features exuberant colors and breathes life into the world, with lush landscapes comprised of beautiful mountains and in-depth scenes of nature. As an artist who has autism, Santos uses his brushstrokes as a way to communicate and share his thoughts without words while providing himself peace and focus. This nature-driven art exhibit will allow the mind to wander through calming trails and ascend through valleys. Be sure to stop by this exhibit from July 28 through December 21.
In addition to the many art galleries, Santa Clarita is proud to announce the newest permanent art sculpture in Newhall. Grab your bike and head on over to the Santa Clarita Public Library Old Town Newhall Branch to park in the book-inspired bike rack. Artist Greg Mueller took inspiration from the bike culture in the City of Santa Clarita, as well as the community engagement at the local Library branches, to create a bike rack that encapsulates literacy and arts – and bike function. Reclaimed bike frames are mounted into pages of an open book, where residents can then park and lock their own bikes within and along the pages. Next time you want to check out a book or explore Old Town Newhall, be sure to bring your bike and park it at this new art sculpture!

Chicken is often underrated in winter as we often turn to more hearty meat dishes. But this classic French chicken stew shows how rich and hearty a chicken dish can be. It is best prepared in a Dutch oven but can be adapted for a slow cooker. Leftovers reheat well and...
