Fall Home Décor Inspiration
The fun of holidays and the changing of seasons lies in bringing out your old boxes of decorations and festive ornaments to transform your home into a fall-time wonderland of warm scents and colors, and this year is no different! Warm, inviting shades of orange and brown bring an ambiance of coziness to your living and dining rooms, while the kids design their spookiest jack-o-lanterns and pick their costumes for the scariest night of the year.
As the temperature starts to drop and the weather gradually grows chillier, decorate your fireplace with leaves and delicious scented candles to keep yourself warm indoors. Ornamented wreaths and artfully designed throw pillows can accessorize your front porch and show everyone your love for the cooler part of the year.
INDOOR HOME DÉCOR
Couch decorations: Every décor-enthusiast knows that throw pillows and blankets can tie together the look of any living room couch. Choose pillows that feature plaid and burlap-type materials to keep in-tune with the cozier, homey ambiance of your favorite fall-time cabin. When Halloween comes around, pillows with phrases like “BOO!” and “HAPPY HALLOWEEN” can add a little festivity to your couch and let everyone know how much your love your frights and delights!
Candles: Scents like pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and candy corn do much to spice up your home and provide an affectionate invitation into the space. Many stores sell Halloween-themed candles with quirky names, and there are a myriad of different scents available to cater to everyone’s desired indoor fall atmosphere.
Pumpkins: Pumpkins make for great décor both indoors and outdoors, and they serve as the perfect festive addition to any fall or Halloween display. Whether you opt for a real pumpkin or a plastic one, they can be placed around the house on tabletops, atop the fireplace, and even at your front entrance to welcome guests and present them with that traditional fall-time feeling of warmth and contentment.
Potpourri: Potpourri can be used to amplify the intensity of your chosen Autumn candles, or can replace candles altogether if you’re feeling more subtle in terms of scent. Potpourri arrangements are available in a variety of colors and sizes, making it perfect to stick atop your dining table or coffee table to mix a little bit of spirit into the air.
OUTDOOR HOME DÉCOR
Wreaths: Brown, orange, and yellow leaves make for the perfect fall wreath arrangement. Hang a wreath on your front door to welcome all who enter, and if you’re feeling a little bit spooky, you can weave a faux spider web into the wreath itself or glue a cardboard ghost to the center.
Welcome Mats: What better way to greet guests and trick-or-treaters alike than a festive welcome mat? Around Halloween, your traditional welcome mat can be swapped out with a more ghastly alternative (“ENTER IF YOU DARE”), and when Thanksgiving rolls around, you can stick with a simple brown and orange mat, or opt for one that expresses gratitude (“GIVE THANKS”).
Scarecrows: A popular addition to Halloween and archetypal fall setups alike is that of a scarecrow. A smiling scarecrow adds some flair to our outdoor display, and when it comes time for Halloween décor to move in, it can be replaced with a skeleton scarecrow or a more sinister-looking alternative. Try combining a scarecrow with burlap or wicker fabrics, and you’ll be sure to have the most creative autumn porch in the neighborhood!
Festive Flowers: Though chrysanthemums, pansies, and purple fountain grass are all common plants for fall-time flower designs, any festive yellow and orange flowers can provide a cozy pop of color to your outdoor setup. A great way to amp up your arrangement is to choose festive pots – around Thanksgiving, choose one that expresses a cute message like “Give Thanks” or “Gobble Gobble” to tie the whole piece together.
