A Message from the Associate Publisher Alexander Hafizi – October/November 2018
Autumn is here…things are just a little more pretty outside. The air is crisp and fresh, and the weather is starting to cool down. Pumpkin spice is available everywhere making this my favorite time of the year. It’s also the beginning of the holiday season and the time Halloween and Thanksgiving are quickly approaching. A scary time but in a fun way and, of course, a time for being thankful. I am thankful that I get to put out another great élite Magazine for Santa Clarita to enjoy.
Our cover story is a phenomenal man, Richard Tarlow, who has done it all. He is a Vietnam veteran, prominent lawyer and recently an author. See page 8.
Back in August, Arnold and I co-chaired SCV Dancing With Our Stars where 20 non-profits competed to raise money and awareness. We are proud to announce they raised $256,434, bringing our 8 year total raised to over $1,750,000. We are highlighting it on page 12.
It’s Halloween time and we have some treats for you – to get things started, our Ultimate Awards in this issue is honoring Home & Garden businesses, check out the winners on page 14.
In this issue, we get a close up look at a man who worked hard to make his dreams come true at Princess Cruises. Speaking of close ups, we feature an amazing woman whose business is all about uncovering the truth. Continuing the trend of amazing people, the SCV Senior Center has an Executive Director that has become somewhat of a local celebrity. He is getting excited for the new senior center to open. Our team is pleased to feature another great organization and their fairly new Hope’s Haven Cancer Wellness Center that helps cancer patients even more. Learn more about it on page 42. Our next gal really “Nailed It!” on Netflix and is making waves in the hearing impaired community. The next two features are ones for the books. First up, is a guy that really stimulates your fear with his psychological horror novels. The second author puts a more humorous child-like approach to scary. Her main character is becoming a superstar for adults and children everywhere.
At élite Magazine, we absolutely love the arts, that’s why we feature a story from the Santa Clarita Arts Commission in each issue. They have a Full-Day Arts Symposium coming up that is a sure hit for art fans, amateurs and experts alike. Following that, we delve into the rich film history with SCV Reel Talk. I am always amazed at how much filming is done in our town and in this issue we talk about the amount of music videos that were filmed out here.
As a small business, we make sure to advocate for the “little guy” and put helpful hints to move your business along in both of our publications. In this issue we have Social Media expert Claudia Sheridan sharing eight ways to optimize your Instagram account. I always learn something new after reading her columns, they are so informative. In additional to that, we have expert advice and information on the latest business trends and developments in our community with Holly Schroeder, President of the Santa Clarita Economic Development Corporation. Holly really means business in her articles and it’s always so interesting to read about our ever-growing town.
There is a new event in town put on by feedSCV. If you are a foodie and you haven’t heard about it, now is the time. They have come up with a new and exciting event that has to do with local chefs, wine and cocktail enthusiasts, and beyond. You are going to have to read the story to learn more about it. We have even more for the foodies of Santa Clarita, Nadine Young treats us with a Green Monster Smoothie that can be made in five minutes. Eve Bushman our wine columnist wants us all to not be afraid to ask questions about wine. Wine doesn’t have to be so serious. So get out there and have some fun learning about and drinking wine.
If you are in the mood to travel out of Santa Clarita, you should adventure to Oxnard. Located a small distance from the Santa Clarita Valley this happening place has everything, from gorgeous beaches to fine dining and outdoor recreation. This town has something for everyone.
We can only bring these fabulous stories to you because of the support from our advertisers, so please let them know that you saw them in élite Magazine. I wish you happy and healthy holidays.
Until next time,
Alexander Hafizi
