New Patient Tower to Open at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital

 Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s new patient tower is scheduled to open to patients this summer.
The tower will have all private rooms, each with a private bathroom and ample space for patients, family and staff. In all, the tower will have up to 142 patient beds.
The new patient tower will also facilitate development of an improved care delivery system, by allowing the hospital to organize patients and staff in a way that makes care better and more efficient hospital-wide.
The second floor of the tower will house the new Center for Women and Newborns. This beautiful 29-bed unit will include 22 private rooms for before and after birth, seven labor-and-delivery rooms, sleepover accommodations so a loved one can stay overnight, two dedicated Cesarean Section operating suites, and an OB Emergency Department.
The rooms will feature non-clinical furnishings and design to help provide a calm environment, greater patient privacy, and will also offer special baby sinks for the cleansing and care of newborns.
“It is important for women to experience childbirth in an environment that promotes healing and wellness. We provide an experience that is focused on family-centered care,” said Jennifer Castaldo, Henry Mayo vice president and chief nursing officer. “Most patients, when they are expecting a new addition to the family, appreciate additional comfort and amenities. That is what we’ll be providing – a spa-like, healing, warm environment in which women can give birth.”
A new permanent rooftop helipad will provide direct access to the Emergency Department, which will allow Henry Mayo’s care teams to begin treating trauma patients more quickly.
The new tower will also feature an expanded Laboratory Department. The centrally located laboratory services will expedite processing of lab tests in emergency situations. There will be three new medical/surgical Units with 30 new medical/surgical beds in each unit and four nursing charting stations on each floor.
Henry Mayo’s Materials Management Department will also be expanding. This expansion will help optimize delivery of medical supplies.

Other tower features include expanded nutritional services; a new cafeteria with a hotel-quality kitchen; indoor and outdoor dining areas, a physician dining area; and a central atrium dining garden that admits light to indoor dining area.
As a finishing touch, local artist Frank Rock is painting a large mural in the outdoor dining area. This beautiful work of art will be enjoyed by Henry Mayo staff and visitors for years to come.
